5 D Cattle & Steakhouse 12/19/09

Avinger TX
If I had ordered it med well I am sure it would have come out dry and tough. Upon arriving at 5 pm, we were immediately seated. The lighting was extremely dim and I had a difficult time reading the menu. Because of the holidays, the restaurant filled up fast and was quite loud at times. Our drinks were quickly brought out along with a basket of rolls/butter. I ordered a 10oz rib eye, baked potato, and broccoli cheese soup (which was new and not yet on the menu). Our food was ready rather quickly but the soup was brought out with the meal instead of before. I started with the soup but it was too peppery and I could not eat it. This was very disappointing because I have had broccoli cheese soup in many restaurants and was eager to try their new item. The potato was exactly like I like it..Not because they got it right, but because they bring out a basket of fixin's and you make it to your liking. It was rather tedious but 5 minutes later my potato was perfect. The steak, I had ordered it cooked medium knowing most places overcook their steak. This was the case here as well. My steak was cooked med well. Very tender and slightly pink with very little juice coming off. I loved it!!!
Overall the experience was good.
I give it 3 1/2 stars
She Said

This evening HE SAID SHE SAID took a little drive to Avinger, TX for dinner at 5-D Cattle Co. and Steakhouse. This would not be our first trip to this eatery, so the quaint location and atmosphere was found to be as pleasant as expected….
Arriving sometime around 5:15 PM, we were welcomed at the door and seated immediately. With our drink order taken and a menu in hand, it would soon be time make a decision for this evening’s dinning experience….
With my glass of ice tea (un-sweet), the server brought a basket of bread. The bread was soft and warm with butter melting upon contact. The bread appeared to be freshly baked and very tasty. The tea had just the right consistency; not too weak, not too strong….
Upon our servers timely return, I decided to start with fried mozzarella sticks with ranch dressing. For the main entree, I selected a 10 oz rib eye cooked medium with baked beans and a baked potato for my sides….
The appetizer soon arrived, but I found nothing special with the mozzarella sticks as they appeared to be your average frozen product dunked in hot grease. The ranch dressing did prove to be a good choice with it’s creamy and uniquely seasoned taste….
My steak arrived and I found it to be prepared as requested. The center was pink, yet warm with the meat's juices ample, but with no bloody appearance. The steak presented a flavor that required no additional sauce….
But I found the sides just a bit to be desired. The baked potato was only luke warm and would not melt the butter. The potato’s texture was firm, so either the potato had not been baked long enough, or was leftover from the previous evening….
Open up a can of pork and beans and you’ll share the same experience I had with my side of baked beans. They too weren’t hot, so I suppose they didn’t leave them in the microwave long enough….
I found this evening’s overall dinning experience to only meet my expectations. I have always found 5-D’s steaks to be pleasant to the taste and tonight’s was no exception, but come on 5-D, step up to the plate and offer better quality sides….
You’ll find cost of the items on 5-D’s menu to be above average with two steak entrees, tea and an appetizer hitting my wallet for a $50.00 bill….
“The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook!” Julia Child
In my opinion, on a special occasion take a trip to 5-D Cattle Company and Steakhouse, as they do offer a unique dinning experience as well as a fine quality steak. You‘ll find the eatery on Hwy 49 in downtown Avinger, TX….

Just My Opinion
The good thing about an opinion, everyone should have one….
The bad thing about an opinion, it is often hard to find someone to agree….
We all know disagreements can often lead to hard feelings, but I suggest sharing your thoughts with someone else should actually be healthy. The relationship my wife and I share is truly unique and from the beginning have understood it is perfectly alright to AGREE to DISAGREE….
After all, “Marriage is the only war that you get to sleep with the enemy!”….
My wife thought it would be fun to share our exchange of thoughts, ideas, and opinions with others. She decided that best format to do so would be in a blog, so she developed HE SAID, SHE SAID….
So I will do my best to transform my thoughts into words to share with the World Wide Web. Just remember, I totally agree if you so desire to disagree….
